about
Back in the summer of 2023 I had the opportunity to record 3 of my compositions with 15 strings, 3 piece rhythm section and clarinet. The arrangements were written by the incomparable Mark Limacher, and I can’t say enough just how perfect those arrangements are. This composition is quite a bit different from my usual songs. Usually my music is optimistic and romantic, and this piece is quite the opposite. There can be so many interpretations of “Next Time”, and truthfully, the meaning I associate with the song is somewhat of a mystery to me. Sometimes in my writing I don't figure out what I was writing about until months, even years later. I hope you enjoy "Next Time", Mark really hit it out of the park with this one.
lyrics
Next time I’ll keep my cards close to my chest
And when I go to jump the gun instead I’ll rest
Next time I go to speak a word
I’ll bite my tongue and stay unheard
Next time I’ll keep my cards close to my chest
Next time I’ll take my secret to the grave
And when I want to laugh I’ll seal my lips and behave
There’ll be no more “i”’s to dot
For I’ll no longer pen my thoughts
Next time I’ll take my secret to the grave
Next time I’ll take my secret to the grave
And when I want to laugh I’ll seal my lips and behave
There’ll be no more “i”’s to dot
For I’ll no longer pen my thoughts
Next time I’ll take my secret to the grave
